Up to 80% of adults have some degree of gum disease. Inflammation of the tissues that support the teeth, inflammation occurs causing the recession of the gums, bone loss, infection, mobile teeth and eventual tooth loss.
THIS IS A SILENT DISEASE AND BY THE TIME THAT PAIN, INFECTION OCCURS THE DISEASE IS USUALLY ADVANCED. EARLY DETECTION BY REGULARLY ATTENDING THE DENTIST IS ESSENTIAL TO AVOID AND SLOW DOWN DISEASE PROGRESSION.

Gum disease is caused by plaque. Progressing from gingivitis to periodontitis, this can result in tooth loss and the loss of the bone supporting the teeth. Prevention and treatment includes removing all of the plaque from your teeth every day. This is done by brushing and flossing. Your hygienist will demonstrate brushing techniques, the use of floss and other devices.
